the details...

More than just a suburb of Toronto

Mississauga is a thriving city in its own right, with incredible dining, shopping, recreation options and green spaces. It’s a great place to live – and a fantastic place to work, too. It’s an economic hub with over 98,000 registered businesses including multinational corporations and small enterprises, a robust job market, and one of the lowest unemployment rates in Canada.

Living in Mississauga

Benefits

Drawbacks

Incredible Diversity

Residents hail from all corners of the globe, with vibrant communities and celebrations, not to mention amazing foods from all over the world.

Urban Sprawl

The suburban layout means that amenities, shops, and services are often pretty spread out. Unless you live in concentrated hubs like downtown Mississauga, this can mean longer drives or having to rely on a car day-to-day.

Green Spaces Galore

Whether you’re looking to play with the kids in the park, cycle along the lake or take a hike, Mississauga has all the outdoor options.

Lots of construction

Once the Hurontario LRT is done, it will be amazing. But while it’s being built, expect road closures and delays for the next few years.

Commuter-Friendly

Work in Toronto? It’s easy to get there by car, transit or GO. And the future Hurontario LRT will make getting around even easier.

Traffic Woes

Mississauga is a commuter city – so rush hour can get frustrating. Depending on what part of the city you live in, commute times can be long.

Arts & Culture

From the incredible Living Arts Centre to the Art Gallery of Mississauga, you won’t have to go far to see incredible visual and performing arts.

Transit isn't perfect

Public transit isn’t as extensive as Toronto – if you don’t have a car, getting around is certainly possible, but it has its challenges.

Employer Magnet

Mississauga has become one of the most popular destinations in the GTA for industries looking to establish a base of operations. Some notable companies with headquarters in Mississauga include  Microsoft, PepsiCo, Nissan, WalMart, and General Mills.

Cost of Housing

The city’s population growth has lead to a greater demand for housing and thus higher housing prices. While home prices aren’t quite as high as Toronto, they’re pretty close, so Mississauga won’t fit everyone’s budget.

Housing Options

Whether you’re looking for a condo in a sleek high-rise, a suburban-style family home or something in between, Mississauga has a diverse range of housing options. Real estate is competitive, but generally more affordable than Toronto, making it an attractive choice for first-time buyers and families.
